1. Gabh mo leithscéal, cá bhfuil an séipéal? (Excuse me, where is the church?)
Ó, tá sé furasta. (Oh, that’s easy.)

2. Cas ar clé ag an teach tábhairne. (Turn left at the pub.)
Cén teach tábhairne? (What pub?)

3. Dhún sé sa bhliain nócha a seacht. (It closed in ninety-seven.)

4. An bhfuil aon rud ann fós? (Is anything still there?)
Tá. An séipéal. (There is. The church.)

Phrases worth stealing

  • Cas ar clé / ar dheis.: Turn left / turn right.
  • Díreach ar aghaidh.: Straight ahead.
  • Sa bhliain nócha a seacht.: In ninety-seven. How a year is usually said aloud, with no need for the full míle naoi gcéad…
