How Love Irish handles your data: what we keep if you make an account, what stays on your own device, which services help run the site, and how to delete your account.

Last updated 13 October 2026.

The short version

Love Irish is a free, non-commercial website for learning Irish. There are no adverts and no tracking cookies, and we never sell or share your information for marketing. You can use almost everything on the site without an account.

Who runs Love Irish

Love Irish (loveirish.app) is an independent project run from Ireland. If you have any question about your data, email info@loveirish.app or use the contact form.

If you create an account

An account lets your progress follow you from one device to another. To run it we keep:

If you ask for a password reset, we email you a link that works once and expires after an hour. We keep a scrambled copy of it only until it’s used or runs out.

When you make an account you can tick a box to hear about new things on the site. It is off unless you tick it, nothing is sent to you if you leave it alone, and you can turn it on or off any time on your profile page. It is used a few times a year at most, only for what is new here, and your address is never passed to anybody else or used to advertise anything that is not this site.

Everything else we send is about your own account: a password reset when you ask for one, or a note if something about the account itself needs saying.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account yourself at any time from your profile page. That removes your email, profile and saved progress from our database straight away. You can also ask us to do it by email. Account details aren’t included in the content backups we make of the site.

What stays on your own device

A lot of the site works without sending anything to us. Your browser keeps these on your own device:

We can’t see any of this. You can remove it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings. The site doesn’t use cookies for tracking or advertising.

Things you type into the tools

Some tools need help from another service to work, so please don’t type personal details into them.

If you send in a photograph

You need an account to add a photograph to the old photographs page. When you send one in we keep the image file, and the title, caption, place, county, year and credit name you give with it, linked to your account.

If a photograph on that page is yours and you did not put it there, email info@loveirish.app and it will come down.

The contact form

Your name, email address and message are sent to us by email, using a service called Resend. They aren’t saved in the site’s database, and we keep the email only as long as we need it to reply.

Daily reminders

If you switch on reminders, your browser gives us a push address: a long random web address from your browser’s push service (such as Google, Apple or Mozilla). We keep it to send one reminder a day. It isn’t linked to your email or your account. Switching reminders off deletes it, and it’s also removed if your browser tells us it’s no longer in use.

Visitor statistics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits to pages. It doesn’t use cookies or follow you to other websites, and it only gives us totals, not information about individual people.

Hosting and other sites

The site is hosted by Railway. Like any website, our server sees your IP address when it sends you a page. We use it for a short time to block abuse, such as far too many requests in a few minutes, and we don’t save it in our database. Railway may keep short-term technical logs.

Some pictures load from Wikimedia Commons and Unsplash, and the pronunciation guides load their fonts from Google Fonts. When that happens your browser contacts those sites directly, so they see your IP address too.

Children

Children are very welcome, and nobody needs an account to use the site, School Spellings included. If you’re under 16, please ask a parent or guardian before creating an account.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email info@loveirish.app and we’ll reply within a month. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission.

Changes

If we change how the site uses your data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
