Focal an Lae: Bróg
Saturday, 24 October 2026
Bróg (brohg) is the Irish for a shoe.
This gave English the brogue, the shoe with the punched holes. The other brogue, an Irish accent, may come from barróg, a grip or a hold on the tongue, though scholars argue about it.
