Fionn mac Cumhaill (Fionn mac Cumhaill)

The leader of the Fianna and the central figure of the Fenian Cycle. He gained all the world's knowledge from the Salmon of Knowledge.

Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool) was the legendary leader of the Fianna, a band of warrior-hunters who protected Ireland. He was the son of Cumhall, a former leader of the Fianna, and Muirne.

As a boy, he gained the wisdom of the world by accidentally tasting the Salmon of Knowledge (An Bradán Feasa). This wisdom served him well in his many adventures, including his pursuit of Diarmuid and Gráinne and his battles against giants and magical beasts.

Fionn is also a giant in folklore. He is credited with creating the Giant's Causeway in County Antrim as stepping stones to Scotland to fight the giant Benandonner. He also scooped up a piece of land to throw at a rival, creating Lough Neagh (the hole) and the Isle of Man (the land that landed in the sea).
