Ar an bhFeirm: On the Farm

A morning with the cows, a dog that knows the job, and one gate left open.

Tá feirm ag m'uncail.
My uncle has a farm.

Téim ann gach samhradh.
I go there every summer.

Éirímid go luath ar maidin.
We get up early in the morning.

Tá fiche bó aige.
He has twenty cows.

Tá madra oibre aige freisin.
He has a working dog too.

Bran is ainm dó.
Bran is his name.

Tuigeann Bran gach rud.
Bran understands everything.

Tugaimid na ba isteach.
We bring the cows in.

D'fhág mé an geata ar oscailt.
I left the gate open.

Amach leis na ba arís.
Out with the cows again.

Ní dhéanfaidh mé é sin arís.
I won't do that again.

A note on this one

In early Ireland wealth was counted in cattle: fines, dowries and a king's standing were all reckoned in cows, and the greatest of the old tales, the Táin, is a cattle raid. The word bó is as old as any in the language.
