The Plantation of Ulster

1609 — The organised settlement of Ulster with English and Scottish colonists.

After the Flight of the Earls, the Crown confiscated vast lands in Ulster and 'planted' them with Protestant settlers from England and Scotland from 1609. It reshaped the province's population, religion and land ownership, with consequences that echo in Northern Ireland to this day.
