The Irish Civil War

1922-1923 — The bitter conflict over the Anglo-Irish Treaty that followed independence.

The Treaty that ended the War of Independence split the independence movement between those who accepted the Irish Free State and partition and those who rejected them. The resulting civil war (1922–23) was brief but bitter, costing the lives of leaders such as Michael Collins and shaping Irish politics for generations.
