The Good Friday Agreement

1998 — The peace accord that largely ended the Troubles.

Signed on Good Friday 1998 and endorsed by referendums North and South, the Good Friday (Belfast) Agreement established a power-sharing government in Northern Ireland and set out principles of consent and cross-border cooperation. It brought an end to most of the violence of the Troubles.
